On February 20, 2025, Gujarat's Finance Minister, Kanu Desai, presented the state's budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, totaling ₹3.7 lakh crore. This budget emphasizes significant investments in education, infrastructure, and social welfare.



Education Sector Investments

The budget allocates ₹59,999 crore to education, aiming to modernize Gujarat's educational landscape. Key initiatives include:

Mission Schools of Excellence: ₹2,914 crore for structural enhancements in over 25,000 classrooms.

 

Namo Lakshmi Yojana: ₹1,250 crore to promote girls' education.

 

Right to Education (RTE) Act Implementation: ₹782 crore to support students in private schools.

 

Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana: ₹250 crore to benefit 2.5 lakh students.

Student Travel Concessions: ₹223 crore allocated for concessions in State Transport buses.

Gyan Shakti Residential Schools of Excellence: ₹200 crore to enhance residential education facilities.

Scholarships: ₹100 crore for Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarships (benefiting 75,000 students) and ₹70 crore for Gyan Setu Merit Scholarships (assisting 90,000 students).

Teacher Recruitment: Plans to recruit over 22,000 teachers in government and aided schools to address staff shortages.

Infrastructure Developments

Significant infrastructure projects are outlined to enhance connectivity and urban development:

Road Expansion: ₹5,000 crore allocated for road expansion projects.

Smart Cities Initiative: ₹4,000 crore dedicated to developing smart cities.

Urban Housing Projects: ₹3,500 crore for urban housing initiatives.

Expressways and High-Speed Corridors: Development of two new expressways and 12 high-speed corridors under the "Garvi Gujarat" project to improve transportation efficiency.

Greenfield Airport in Dahod: ₹45 crore allocated for a new airport to enhance air connectivity.

Social Welfare and Other Initiatives

The budget also focuses on social welfare and economic growth:

Healthcare: Over ₹40,000 crore allocated, including ₹3,200 crore for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to expand healthcare coverage for low-income families.

Women's Empowerment: ₹15,000 crore for schemes promoting nutrition, financial independence, and safety for women, such as Namo Lakshmi Yojana and Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyam Yojana.

 

Skill Development and Startups: ₹10,000 crore allocated to foster job creation and entrepreneurship, focusing on IT, AI, renewable energy, and manufacturing sectors.

Agriculture: ₹25,000 crore dedicated to irrigation, smart farming techniques, and crop insurance subsidies, including the Mukhyamantri Kisan Yojana for improved irrigation and financial support.

Renewable Energy: ₹12,000 crore for solar, wind, and hydrogen power projects, aiming to increase solar capacity by 5,000 MW and develop electric vehicle infrastructure.
