New Delhi, September 2025
The
GreenJustice Network Foundation, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to
advocacy for the Earth, hosted a landmark international webinar on “AI in
Education for Sustainability” on August 31, 2025. Part of the
organization’s Advocacy for the Earth Webinar series, the flagship
virtual event (7:00 PM to 9:00 PM IST) brought together educators,
policymakers, students, technologists, and environmental advocates from around
the world. The session explored how artificial intelligence (AI) can
revolutionize education systems, create inclusive and personalized learning
opportunities, and empower youth to drive climate action.
The webinar also marked
the launch of the AI Gen Z Army, a youth-led initiative leveraging AI
tools for environmental awareness and policy advocacy. This vision represents
the next chapter of GreenJustice’s mission: integrating AI-powered education
to create socially responsible and climate-conscious learners.
A Vision for AI-Driven
Education and Sustainability
Under the leadership of Founder
& CEO Chandan Kumar and Program Director Sneh Lata the webinar
highlighted how AI can create accessible, engaging, and future-ready
education systems while also building environmental awareness among
students.
Opening the session, Chandan
Kumar, CEO shared a bold vision:
“Imagine a school where
lessons in math, science, and history are taught alongside real-time insights
into energy conservation, water use, and carbon footprint reduction. Education
shouldn’t just prepare us for exams; it should prepare us to solve the world’s
biggest challenges.”
Sneh Lata emphasized AI’s role as a tool for access and empowerment:
“AI is the bridge between
opportunity and access. It can create inclusive learning environments
where every child, regardless of location or resources, can thrive. We see AI
as a mentor, a guide, and a problem-solver—helping young minds not just to
learn but to lead with empathy, innovation, and purpose.”
Together, Chandan
Kumar and Sneh Lata envision a future where education and environmental
sustainability go hand in hand—transforming schools into innovation labs
where students use AI to solve real-world challenges.
Keynote Highlights and
Expert Insights
The event featured a
distinguished panel of experts:
- Daniela Weber,
Director of the NetHope Center for the Digital Nonprofit, delivered the
keynote on responsible AI use, emphasizing the need to bridge
digital divides and ensure ethical practices in AI integration for
education and environmental outcomes.
- Dr. Priya Khurana,
Teacher In-Charge at Lady Irwin College, highlighted AI’s
transformative role in inclusive education, particularly for students
with special needs, through adaptive learning technologies.
- Himanshu Chaurasia, Founder & CEO of CoGrad, showcased practical AI-driven school programs, focusing on scalable solutions like AI enabled smart classrooms.
- This mix of global perspectives positioned AI as both a pedagogical tool and a sustainability catalyst, making the session highly impactful for educators, innovators, and policymakers alike.
The AI Gen Z Army: A Youth-Led Educational Movement
The centerpiece of the
webinar was the unveiling of the AI Gen Z Army—an initiative to empower
youth to become climate leaders through AI-driven education and action.
The roadmap includes:
1. AI-Powered
Environmental Monitoring & Smart Campuses
Partnering with schools to install real-time
dashboards and low-cost sensors to track energy and water usage, targeting 10–15%
savings annually.
2. AI-Driven
Personalized Sustainability Curriculum Creating adaptive
learning modules aligned with CBSE/NCERT standards, using AI chatbots as
“Green Tutors” to make environmental education engaging and practical.
3. Gamified
AI Eco-Action Platform- A mobile app with leaderboards and
AI-verified challenges to engage students in eco-actions by 2027.
4. AI
for Youth Policy & Research- Conducting hackathons and
student-led research projects, enabling youth to draft evidence-based
climate policy recommendations for local and national governments.
Chandan Kumar summarized
the movement:
“This is about equipping
students not just with knowledge but with tools, vision, and courage to lead.
With AI, we transform education from a passive process into an engine of social
and environmental innovation.”
Global Context and
Educational Relevance
The webinar reflects
global priorities on AI in education and sustainability, echoing
UNESCO’s 2021 Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, which emphasizes inclusion,
equity, and access. It also aligns with initiatives like the Coalition
for Environmentally Sustainable Artificial Intelligence, launched by
France, UNEP, and ITU in 2025, which advocates for responsible and green AI
practices.
Daniela Weber emphasized
the ethical responsibility of organizations like NetHope to create digital
equity. Dr. Priya Khurana
highlighted AI’s role in inclusive learning models for diverse
classrooms, while Himanshu Chaurasia demonstrated how AI-driven systems can
make schools innovation hubs that align with India’s Digital India mission
and SDG-4 goals.
Seamless Execution and Partnerships
The event’s success was credited to precise coordination by Shahney Alam and partnerships with CA Kritima Kumari – Relationship Coach, Reinforce Legal, Vividh Kala Vikas Samiti, Campus Varta, and Champaran Kesari. Participants joined from across Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America, making it a truly international exchange of ideas.
Since its founding in
2020 as a Section 8 nonprofit, GreenJustice Network Foundation has been
a leader in education and sustainability advocacy, with initiatives
ranging from digital skill-building to rural sustainability campaigns. Its July
2025 webinar on Rural Sustainability and Education Models set the stage
for this larger, globally connected event.
A Call to Action
As climate crises and
education gaps deepen, the GreenJustice webinar sends a clear message: AI is
a vital tool for empowering young minds to create solutions, not just learn
about problems.
Through the AI Gen Z
Army, GreenJustice aims to make schools innovation labs where technology
fuels curiosity, climate literacy, and leadership. By blending AI with
environmental advocacy, the organization is preparing a generation that doesn’t
just study sustainability but actively shapes a smarter, greener future.
A key highlight of this
session was the interactive Q&A, where speakers patiently
addressed students’ doubts about AI, its ethical use, and its role in
sustainability—making the webinar a truly enriching learning experience.
